Pathways of Influence

Lead Partner: North West Rural Community Councils

Description

The work of NWRCCs is now complete and the action research findings are presented in the report titled: Pathways of Influence, Community Led Planning- Why It Matters (attached below.) The project’s purpose responds directly to the challenges of the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act and to the Empowerment White Paper.

Its aims were to:

  • Explore the contribution that the process of community led planning can make to public sector initiatives including place shaping and community engagement
  • Capture practical experience of community planning from the perspective of both the public sector and communities; and
  • Identify ways in which the process of community planning can be made more relevant to public sector needs and therefore more effective in influencing strategic policy, planning and practice.
The research that they have undertaken clearly demonstrates the potential of community planning to assist the public sector in addressing Government priorities, especially those relating to place shaping and community engagement. However, they also identify a range of factors that have acted as barriers to this potential yet being realized.
