The Devon Heartlands Community Partnership

Lead Partner: Devon Heartlands Community Development Trust

Description

The Devon Heartlands Community Partnership is the successor to the Okehampton Area MCTi Partnership working with communities of Okehampton, North Tawton & Chagford and the surrounding Parishes. They aim to work with all community groups, local authorities, and agencies to help make the communities better places for everyone.

The RARP programme allowed Devon Heartlands and its partners to undertake research and to help put in place some innovative and practical approaches for improved and sustained Community-Led Planning. These include the creation of local Community Forums for the Okehampton and Tavistock areas and their representation on the management board of the West Devon Local Strategic Partnership.

devonFrom the outset the programme was designed to work with partners across all levels- Local, District, County and Regional tiers and to make contributions to national level conversations resulting in several examples of adopted best practice.

As well as a number of successful outcomes and achievements, this work has also exposed some observations.  Included in these is a message which resonates throughout the findings from the RARP.

'Government guidance and legislation clearly highlights the need for engaged and empowered citizens, however the RARP has identified that neither specific resources nor commonly agreed processess to manage these ambitions have been applied by any strategic agency to support long term Community Development e.g. embedded Community Led Planning.'
