Lead Partner: Cornwall Rural Community Council
Description
This action research work will implement ways of involving children and young people in community planning processes to ensure their views influence eventual outcomes. Until recently, children and young people were rarely consulted at all and there is clearly a need to take a holistic view to community planning. “Traditional” methods of consultation (e.g. questionnaires) do not engage children and young people and may not even touch on issues they feel are important/relevant to them; often adults are responsible for making decisions on their behalf. However, it is recognised that children and young people’s issues frequently come up in community plans and the groups need to know how to capture useful information to ensure appropriate outcomes arise.
The work recognises the importance of the “Every Child Matters” agenda and is designed to ensure that the views of children and young people are heard by those concerned with rural policy and delivery. In order to achieve this, CRRC intend that communities are given the right resources to carry out effective community-led planning processes. Existing CRCC and Getting Connected Partnership networks will be utilised to maximise this involvement and to encourage the sharing of ideas and methods between communities and authorities which implement relevant policies.
The effectiveness of these methods will be assessed and successful ideas will be disseminated nationally.
