New Solutions for Changing Times, 30th June, Savoy Place, London

Posted on 05/28/2009

Tough economic times highlight the need for sustainable solutions. House prices may be falling, but housing remains unaffordable. Private housebuilders are retreating from the market, while owners find themselves in negative equity. The need to escape from this cycle of boom and bust is more pressing than ever.

Community land trusts offer a way of providing homes and locally-owned business and community premises that are not at the mercy of the markets. They provide long term affordability and are assets for their communities, not for speculators.

Interest in community land trusts has been growing year by year across the political and economic spectrum. Pioneered in rural areas, they are now recognised as a potential solution to urban challenges too.

Now is the time to find out what CLTs are all about - or, if you are already involved in the movement, to update your skills and knowledge and share your experiences with others.

This year's national CLT conference, organised for the third successive year by New Start magazine and Carnegie partners's Community Finance Solutions, will hear from leading policymakers and from individuals and organisations at the cutting edge of practice.

It will explore how CLTs can be a sustainable solution in a wide range of settings - encompassing housing, economic development and community empowerment.
