November 2009 to April 2010
‘We have recognised that the most important elements driving regeneration are people-based: ideas, attitudes, culture and narratives. This is a hopeful message in some ways because investing in people is cheaper than huge infrastructure projects – but it is much harder to do and to justify. Our research points to the need to redress the balance of regeneration programmes, away from expensive capital projects to investment in locally inspired action.’
A Manifesto for Rural Communities- Inspiring Community Innovation
The International Association for Community Development (IACD) in partnership with Carnegie UK Trust has launched an Inquiry into Asset-Based Approaches to Community Development. Many people are now advocating this approach. But what do we really mean by this? What can we learn from international experience? And at a crucial point when policy makers will have to decide how to invest scare resources, are there opportunities to bring this experience to bear as we influence policy development and practice? Between November 2009 and April 2010, Inquiry participants will explore these questions and more, at face-to-face events and online at www.fieryspirits.com.
Insights, stories and evidence from this process will be published as a report and companion case-studies. This will be launch at IACD’s annual global conference at New Orleans in July 2010.
We would like to hear about your opinions and experiences – please join the discussions on www.fieryspirits.com.
