The Centre for Rural
Communities was formed in 1995 as an alliance of Monash University’s Gippsland Campus, the T.A.F.E sector and Adult Education, the Centre became incorporated in 1995 and has its home at Monash University Gippsland Campus in Churchill, Victoria, Australia.
The Centre promotes:
- A new understanding of rural development
- Building on existing assets, talents, knowledge and resources.
- Management by local people.
Resulting outcomes are:
- Rural communities working in partnership with public and private
sectors. - The building of capable communities and resourceful regions.
Some our achievements so far:
- Development of the ‘Graduate Certificate in Regional Community Development’
- Production of a Study Circle Kit and a Professional Development
Manual. - Involvement in the ‘Other Awards’ projects.
The Centre for Rural Communities Inc. recognises the imperative of
strong and diverse rural communities being an intrinsic part of the
Australian culture and economy. The Centres’ vision is of rural communities that are socially, environmentally and economically sustainable.
People currently involved in the Graduate certificate are from very
diverse backgrounds that include Landcare, primary industries, health
promotion, libraries, youth, arts, water authorities, regional events
management, Dept. of Victorian Communities and Lake Tyers Trust.
Facilitators in Latrobe City’s ‘Strengthening Seven Small Communities
Program’ and the East Gippsland Shire’s ‘Youth Community Alliance
and Action Building Project’ are currently undertaking the Graduate
Certificate in Regional Community Development as a part of their job
training.
